Why You Need To Limit Your Social Media Use
Why You Need To Limit Your Social Media Use Social media is everywhere- and a huge part of our day-to-day lives. Itââ¬â¢s not going anywhere either. But do the benefits of all this connectivity and constant chatter actually outweigh the costs? Have you even considered what costs there might be in your life and career? Here are a handful of reasons why you should curb your constant phone use and start taking part in that old-fashioned thing we call the real world.1. Youââ¬â¢re Down on YourselfStudies show that people who spend a significant amount of time on social media experience increased anxiety and decreased self-esteem. Watching everybody elseââ¬â¢s milestones and achievements fly through your feed doesnââ¬â¢t make you happy for your pals, it makes you unhappy about your own (seeming) lack of accomplishment. Are these people even your friends? Are you spending more time thinking about their goal-slashing and not worrying enough about setting goals of your own?2. Youââ¬â¢ve Distorted RealityAnd while weâ⬠â¢re at it, all that success and joy you see on your feed from your thousands of ââ¬Å"friendsâ⬠is also highly crafted and paints a pretty rosy picture of events. Nobodyââ¬â¢s life is as glamorous or freewheeling as Instagram and Facebook make them out to be. Just think of how many times you took that selfie to make sure it looked effortless? Youââ¬â¢re not alone by any means. Remember that image and reality donââ¬â¢t always match up- and that your happiness should not depend on anybody elseââ¬â¢s.3. Itââ¬â¢s Not Actually SocialYou may feel less lonely, or more like you are keeping in touch with all of your friends when youââ¬â¢re constantly all up on their social media, but itââ¬â¢s not actually getting you anywhere close to real, lasting and close relationships with any of your friends. Itââ¬â¢s just empty interaction. Your real, close friends are the ones you have actual conversations with- even on the phone or Skype if not in person. If your frien ds were to deactivate their accounts, would you still speak to them?4. Youââ¬â¢ve Become a JerkAre you that friend who canââ¬â¢t get through an entire dinner- or concert, or picnic, or party, or other hang-out situation- without spending most of the time checking their phone? And be honest- itââ¬â¢s not even for important work emails or personal calls or texts! This friend is scrolling through their Facebook and Instagram feeds while youââ¬â¢re trying to have a conversation. Itââ¬â¢s incredibly rude and ruins the experience for everyone. So if youââ¬â¢re not that friend, make sure you donââ¬â¢t become that friend.5. Your Life is PublicIf you donââ¬â¢t set boundaries and post everything that happens to you willy nilly, you forget that your entire life is not only public, but also permanently recorded in visual images and text. Just remember that safety and reputation are both important. And dial it back a bit.6. Youââ¬â¢re DistractedSocial media is incredib ly distracting. Maybe you find yourself doing something cool; instead of enjoying the moment and being present, youââ¬â¢re mostly thinking how to get the perfect photo and how to phrase the perfect post. Youââ¬â¢re starting to see the world in virtual, filtered form, rather than experiencing it. Or worse- youââ¬â¢ve lost touch with your life because you feel most alive when online. Or the least bored. But every hour you spend on your phone is another hour of life youââ¬â¢re missing out on. Think what you could accomplish in all of that accumulated time!

Louis Vuitton (LV) in Japan - Case Study Example All that is required is for Louis Vuitton is to market its products and the customers will naturally come. 2) There are many challenges that Louis Vuitton face in trying to capture a significant portion of the Japanese luxury goods market. Other brands such as Bulgari, Baccarat, Burberry, the Gucci Group, and Salvatore Ferragamo are all trying to get a foothold in the Japanese luxury goods market. In addition to these already established brands, there are always new brands entering the market all the time. One such new entrant was the Swedish brand H&M, which entered the Japanese market in 2008. On the other hand though, Louis Vuitton is well-placed to thrive in the Japanese market because quality is a key factor that the Japanese consumers place emphasis on. Quality is something that Louis Vuitton has much experience in. This is one marketing strategy that may prove to be successful in the Japanese market. 3) Originally, Louis Vuitton was the first foreign luxury brand to enter the Japanese market, and it did so with the need for a Japanese partner. Louis Vuitton decided to open its own subsidiary in Japan, which was something that was unheard of before Louis Vuitton pioneered the concept. The company delegated authority to each individual Japanese store, and gave its Japanese managers control of marketing strategies because they knew the local culture best. However, in 2003, Louis Vuitton decided to change its marketing strategy in order to stay ahead of its competitors. To do this, Louis Vuitton collaborated with a Japanese artist, Takashi Murakami. He designed that yearââ¬â¢s spring and summer collection and, as a result, Louis Vuittonââ¬â¢s profits increased by 10 percent. 4) At the beginning of the global financial crisis, it seemed that Louis Vuittonââ¬â¢s sales in Japanese may decrease because of limited spending on the part of consumers. In addition to this, Louis Vuittonââ¬â¢s products are

Competition - Essay Example Market leaders possess the biggest market segment; they lead in price determination, constantly avail new product and services and immensely occupy distribution channels and promotions. In an effort to capture and expand their entire market share, prevailing organization must put, in place attack techniques, to protect their current business. Kotler & Keller (2012) demonstrates that due to varying marketing circumstances, long-term market leaders, have to redesign continuously and restructure their marketing strategies depending on market conditions and levels of their product life cycle. The best way to attack a category leader is to avoid a head-on assault and adopt a flanking movement; this is when the challenger attacks point of weakness in the leadersââ¬â¢ defense. According to Kotler & Keller (2012), flank attack strategy is appropriate and best suitable to a competitor who lacks depth in resources; the marketer has to recognize areas where category leader shows weaknesses and fails to perform with a view of capitalizing on the gaps. A good example is the ââ¬Å"Independent News & Media Companyâ⬠, which exceedingly sells newspapers and magazines titles in thriving economic regions while overpowering the internet, its main competitor that boost vast numbers of newspaper readers and advertisers. Further, marketers can employ the front attack strategy in dealing with category leaders by discovering uncovered market demands. For instance, Ariatââ¬â¢s Cowboy Boots has faced challenges presented to its target market as a result of key category leaders such as Justin boots by designing boots, which are not only comfortable, but also used for sporting. Moreover, Groucutt, Leadley & Forsyth (2006) elucidates that, market leaders can identify u nattended market needs that originate from market shifts by creating market openings in the category leaders. The authors cite an example

Muhammad & Hadith Essay Example for Free
Muhammad Hadith Essay Muhammad, whose name was taken from the Arabic word hamada which means ââ¬Å"to praise, to glorify,â⬠was born in Mecca, Western Arabia, in 570 CE to Abd bin Al-Muttalib and Amina bint Wahb. His parents were believed to be descendants of Abraham and Hagar, the Egyptian slave who mothered Abrahamââ¬â¢s son, Ishmael. The story goes that Abraham fled to Mecca with Hagar and Ishmael after his wife, Sarah, also gave birth to a baby boy (Isaac) and became extremely jealous of Hagar and Ishmael. It was with the assistance of Ishmael that Abraham later built the Kaââ¬â¢bah, Islamââ¬â¢s holiest sanctuary, in Mecca. It is now the destination of pilgrims during the hajj (Fisher. 2005). Muhammad married at the age of twenty-five to Khadijah, a forty-year-old businesswoman who owned the caravans which he was managing at the time. His wife later became his main source of support when he was experiencing difficulties during the early years of his mission. Muhammad recounted an incident which happened when he was forty years old. As his story went, an angel appeared to him when he was in a cave in Mt. Hira during one of his spiritual retreats and told him to recite something. Because he was illiterate, he reportedly refused three times. However, the angel insisted and when Muhammad, at last, relented, the angel gave him the words that would later become the Qurââ¬â¢anââ¬â¢s first words. That was the first of a series of revelations, the exact words of which had been: Proclaim! (or Recite! ) In the name Of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created ââ¬â Created man, out of A (mere) clot Of congealed blood: Proclaim! And thy Lord Is Most Bountiful,- He Who taught (The use of) the Pen,- Taught man that Which he knew not (Fisher, 2005). That first revelation undoubtedly referred to the creation. It was followed by more revelations which occurred intermittently. Muhammad described the revelations as follows: ââ¬Å"Revelation sometimes comes like the sound of a bell; that is the most painful way. When it ceases I have remembered what was said. Sometimes it is an angel who talks to me like a human, and I remember what he says. â⬠Initially, Muhammad only shared what was revealed to him with his wife and the few people who believed him. However, after three years had elapsed, he was instructed to start preaching to the public what he had received from the revelations (Fisher, 2005). Although he succeeded in winning converts to Islam, his group was persecuted by the Qurayshites (the aristocrats) in spite of the protection provided by his influential uncle, and exiled to an isolated place where they were forced to eat the leaves of trees and the wild foods they could gather in order to survive. The persecution persisted even after his band of Muslim converts was allowed to go back to Mecca after three years. The darkest period in Muhammadââ¬â¢s life was when he turned fifty. It was called the ââ¬Å"Year of Sorrowsâ⬠because his wife and his uncle who was protecting him died. The Islamic tradition explained that it was approximately during that period of hardship that the ââ¬Å"Night of Ascensionâ⬠occurred. It was claimed to be the occasion when Muhammad was supposed to have ascended into heaven and met the earlier prophets like Adam, Abraham, and Jesus Christ in Divine proximity, observed what hell and paradise were, and was later blessed by the Divine Presence (Fisher, 2005). As a consequence of the persistent Qurayshite persecution that they experienced in Mecca, however, Muhammad and his Muslim followers decided to leave Mecca and head for Medina in 622 CE. Their migration, which was referred to as the hijrah, is now considered as the beginning of the Muslim era. (Risher, 2005).

Carpe Diem in Poetry :: Poem Poetry
The Latin term carpe diem is a descriptive word for literature that presses readers to "seize the moment." It mainly tries to pursue a woman or women that they have true physical beauty and should take advantage of their good looks now before time will take a toll on them. The word carpe diem puts impact on examples of both poems of, "To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time" by Robert Herrick, and "To His Coy Mistress" by Andrew Marvell. Herrick's poem, "To The Virgins, to Make Much of Time," portrays carpe diem by citing the shortness of life and persuading young women to marry and enjoy the life of youth at its advantage before death takes its turn. In the poem "To His Coy Mistress", Marvell consist more traits of carpe diem by persuading a certain woman in being his wife. He uses examples of time and age diminishing her beauty and youth and will leave her with nothing left. They both compare to each other by making the most of each moment before old age and beauty disappears. Herrick's "To The Virgins, to Make Much of Time" fits the meaning of carpe diem by encouraging the beauty of youth and life itself. His calm and moralizing detachment from the personal environment pursues his own view of time and life. Then not be coy but use your time, And, while ye may, go marry: For having lost but once your prime You may forever tarry.

How Science Changed Our Life Essay
The development of science started many centuries ago when our ancestors were exploring the world and inventing things that make our life easier nowadays. We may not even realize it; however, all that surrounds us today, all the technologies, all the goods we possess, medicine and other spheres of our life are influenced by the development of science. Imagine, what the life would be if there were to technological development, transport, internet, telephones, etc. We would just be unable to exist. However, exists another side of a medal. Not all consequences of the science development are positive. There may examples proving that the scientific advancements may have a negative impact on people lives and cause may outcomes, which pose problems. There are even very serious problems, with which we are not able to cope, unfortunately. For instance, talking about the positive side of a question, the discovery of fire and invention of the wheel have crucially changed the life of humanity and made it much more comfortable.Ã In the course of new technological advances were appearing, enabling people to receive cures, assistance in everyday life, etc. Take for example our medicine. In a few decades, scientists have elaborated cures for eradicating the diseases, which were considered fatal. Thanks to the prolific work of chemists and biologists, we now can fight almost all the serious and less serious illnesses. It one of the examples illustrating the positive impact of scientific development that we have faced in recent years. Talking about the negative impacts, caused by the advance in science and technology, it impossible to overlook such issue as pollution and to destroy the ecosystem. Factories pollute the air and drop the chemicals into the water and atmosphere. This dangerous issue needs an urgent solution. Due to this fact, we face a variety of problems. Our ecosystem is suffering from the negative influence of toxic fluids. The environment needs to be saved. Many animal species are endangered and face total extinction. The ozone layer is being destroyed. The ice sheets are melting and causing cataclysms. All these factors illustrate how the humanity becomes a prisoner of its achievements and developments. If we continue in this direction, our future generations will not have a chance to live at all. Development is a positive dynamic traced in the existence of certain phenomena or object. However, not always these changes have positive consequences. Sometimes the thing or achievement in any branch of science, which was supposed to bring welfare to the humanity turns into a disastrous factor. Among the adverse changes cause by science development, it is impossible to overlook. It concerns various branches of science including medicine, technology, and environmental sciences. Illustrating each of them is important. Taking into consideration the sphere of medicine, its positive dynamic in some aspects lead to problems, which we cannot fights even nowadays. Among these negative influences, it is necessary to single out the consequences caused by the usage of drugs. How science has changed our lives, particularly medicine, it is possible to illustrate on this example. The favorable impact of drugs was discovered many years ago. It helped to eliminate pain and bring relief to patients suffering from fatal diseases. Moreover, it helps to relax people who have the Parkinson disease. However, every rose has its thorns. People started using drugs as a way to get a rush. It quickly becomes a serious issue, as people get addicted to narcotics. Now it is tough to fight this problem and find a solution. This advancement in medicine has turned into a disaster. This narcotics issue is a bright example illustrative the negative side of science development. It is possible to illustrate the negative impact of the development of technique on the example of internet invention. On the one hand, the development of the internet was a breakthrough in a sphere of information exchange. Primarily, the most primitive version of the web allowed the soldiers to pass the signals, containing info, in times of war. As it proved to be the quickest and the most reliable way of information interchange, after the end of the war, people started to modernize and develop it.Ã Science changed our lives a lot, and now, we cannot imagine our modern life without the global net. It enables us to everything starting from the chatting, ending with doing shopping and seeing in the live view people, who are in the other parts of the world. However, exists another side of a medal. Science technology changed our lives dramatically, and we have become addicted to the social networks. Undoubtedly, science has caused the range of changes in the life of humanity. Not all of them are positive, and not all of them are negative. However, it is impossible to introduce changes to a specific sphere of life without influencing the other ones. We have to realize the fact that nothing is ideal, and we can control everything. Changes are unavoidable. Where a good there is is also always a bad. It is an unchangeable law of our world. The critical thing to realize is that we are to start looking for the golden middle. We can no longer ignore all the changes caused by the development of science and technology. There are some life aspects, which need the attention of the humanity. Here it goes about the environmental issues and questions connected with the human lives. We are to be responsible for what we do! We have to be able to solve the problems, which we have caused by ourselves! Our task is to do something until it is not late!

Harrison Bergeron Kurt Vonnegut Jr. Essay Example
Harrison Bergeron Kurt Vonnegut Jr. Essay Example Harrison Bergeron Kurt Vonnegut Jr. Essay Harrison Bergeron Kurt Vonnegut Jr. Essay The year is 2081, and peopleââ¬â¢s individualities are being taken away for the sake of being equal. Is this really equality? In this uniform culture they cannot allow competition to occur, so they eliminate any chance of this destructive force from happening through the use of handicaps that take away factors such as advanced intelligence and beauty. Is doing this truly beneficial for society? In ââ¬Å"Harrison Bergeronâ⬠by Kurt Vonnegut Jr., the reader needs to recognize that achieving equality through dehumanization is not true equality and thatcompromising oneââ¬â¢s abilities by placing limitations on them results in the elimination of oneââ¬â¢s identity and potential. Most aspects of life has an element of competition, and these competitions can be seen in everyday life. The world is an increasingly unequal and unfair place. Every year, it becomes a little harder to picture what equal opportunity and egalitarianism even look like. As the rich attract capital like Jupiter attracts space debris and the poor fail to make any substantial gains, the gap between them comes to seem to us less surmountable, more of a force of nature than something for which we can even imagine a reasonable counterfactual. In Harrison Bergeron, society has ââ¬Å"solvedâ⬠inequality by eradicating competition and coercing them to wear handicaps. However, competition encourages society to become stronger and develop further. There is a real danger that inequality is not just related to competition, but to equality of opportunity. This might include things like what kind of education your family can afford to give you, but also could be as simple as what you see in fro nt of you everyday and the way that it either expands or limits your opportunities, and the very knowledge of what you can reasonably aspire. Although the idea of everyone being equal seems perfect and is an idea we as a world strive for, a world with perfect equality does not drive people to try and a :

Overview of Watersheds and Watershed Management
Overview of Watersheds and Watershed Management A watershed, also called a drainage basin in North America, is an area in which all water flowing into it goes to a common outlet or body of water, such as the same estuary or reservoir. Watersheds themselves consist of all surface water and include lakes, streams, reservoirs, and wetlands, as well as all groundwater and aquifers. The water in a watershed originates via precipitation that is collected on the surface and groundwater. However, it is important to note that not all precipitation falling in an area exits the watershed. Some of it is lost through evaporation and transpiration and some is used by people and some soaks into the soil and groundwater. At the boundaries of watersheds, there are drainage divides usually in the form of ridges or hills. Here the water flows into two separate watersheds and does not always end up in a common outlet. In the United States, for example, there are many different watersheds, but the largest is the Mississippi River basin which drains water from the Midwest into the Gulf of Mexico. This water does not enter the Pacific Ocean because the Rocky Mountains act as the drainage divide. The Mississippi River basin is an example of an extremely large watershed, but watersheds vary in size. Some of the worlds largest ones contain smaller watersheds within them depending on where the final water outlet is. Types of Watersheds The second is called a major drainage divide. In this situation, waters on each side of the boundaries do not meet via the same river or stream, but they do reach the same ocean. For example, there is a drainage divide between the Yellow River (Huang He) basin and the Yangtze River in China but both have the same outlet. The final type of drainage divide is called a minor drainage divide. In these, waters separate at the divide but later rejoin. An example of this situation is shown with the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. Key Features of a Watershed The second feature is the drainage divide or watershed boundary, such as a mountain range. This plays a role because it helps in determining whether the water in the watershed is flowing toward or away from an area. The next feature is the topography or terrain of the watersheds land. If the area is steep, the water there is likely to flow quickly and cause flooding and erosion, whereas flat watersheds have often had slower flowing rivers. The final feature of a watersheds physical landscape is its soil type. Sandy soils, for example, absorb water quickly, while hard, clay soils are less permeable. Both of these have implications for runoff, erosion, and groundwater. Significance of Watersheds By studying the key watershed features in addition to activities along waterways scientists, other researchers and city governments can work to keep them healthy because a small change in one portion of a watershed can drastically affect other parts. Human Impacts on Watersheds Watershed pollution occurs in two ways: point source and nonpoint source. Point source pollution is pollution that can be traced to a specific point such as a disposal site or leaking pipe. Recently, laws and technological advances have made it possible to detect point source pollution and its problems are being reduced. Nonpoint source pollution occurs when pollutants are found in water running off of crops, parking lots and other lands. In addition, it can also be caused when particulates in the atmosphere fall onto the land with precipitation. Humans have also impacted watersheds by reducing the amount of water flowing within them. As people take water out of a river for irrigation and other city-wide uses, the rivers flow decreases and with this decreased flow, natural river cycles such as flooding, may not occur. This could, in turn, hurt ecosystems depending on the rivers natural cycles. Watershed Management and Restoration Watershed restoration, on the other hand, is aimed at restoring already impacted watersheds to their natural state through the monitoring of pollution and regulations to reduce further pollution. Watershed restoration programs also work often to repopulate the watershed with its native plant and animal species. Waste Management Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Waste Management - Case Study Example Commercial areas include shops, offices, markets and open areas within the vicinity of the district that the municipality serves. The construction and demolition debris, as well as hazardous wastes, are usually not categorized under municipal solid waste (MSW), but under special circumstances they may be added to the MSW category. Municipal solid waste can be divided into four major categories that are Residential, Commercial and Institutional, Open areas and Treatment plant sites. Residential waste includes wastes generated from households that primarily comprise food wastes. The commercial and industrial wastes which are generated by offices, markets, hotels, restaurants, schools and medical facilities mainly consist of rubbish and food wastes. Open areas include parks, streets and beaches etc. Lastly, treatment plant sites includes sewage, drainage and water treatment processes. MSW is usually referred to as solid waste that the authorities of the city take responsibility of manag ing and disposing in one way or the other. In our case, the 30 gallon garbage on the sidewalk contains office trash and human waste deposits to be qualified as municipal solid waste, so, the contents of the receptacle are definitely solid waste. 3. ... 2) Waste containers should not be filled with water or any other liquid. 3) The authorities need to make sure that only solid waste is put in these containers. 4) Another important handling consideration is to make sure that wastes from different sources are not mixed as it can cause chemical reactions which, therefore, makes recycling and disposal difficult. 5) The vehicles used for the transportation and collection of waste should be covered to avoid exposure to public and scattering of waste. 6) Later on the waste should be categorized into two categories: recyclable and non-recyclable material. Since the waste primarily consists of office trash, it must have considerable amount of paper, bottles and newspaper etc. Waste is recyclable, if it is sent to be processed, while non-recyclable waste should be disposed of either through an incineration or a landfill. 4. How do you respond to the customer and what do you do next?Ã I will calm him down by silently listening to him for a while and showing him that his problems matter to me.
